A composite material that uses silicone resin as a matrix, filled with fillers, or reinforced with fibers (or fabrics). Organosilicon resins are usually formed by hydrolysis and condensation of organochlorosilanes, with active groups on the molecules, which are thermosetting resins due to further curing. There are four main forms of composite materials.

(1) Organic silicon glass varnished cloth, made by impregnating glass cloth with organic silicon resin and drying. Mainly used as wrapping insulation or lining thermal insulation material for electrical appliances and motors.
(2) Silicone laminated plastic, laminated glass cloth impregnated with silicone resin, and made products by high-pressure molding, low-pressure molding or vacuum bag molding. It can be used for a long time at 250°C, and the short-term use temperature can be as high as 300°C. Mainly used for slot wedge insulation of H-class motors, high-temperature relay shells, high-speed aircraft radomes, printed circuit boards, etc.
(3) Silicone mica products, according to the type of silicone insulating resin selected and the structure of mica, a variety of hard or soft products can be obtained, such as mica foil, mica tape, mica board, etc., mainly used for H-class electrical appliances Insulation Materials.
(4) Silicone film compression plastic, using silicone resin as the base material, adding quartz powder, white carbon black and other fillers, rolling, and pulverizing to make a molded material. It has good fluidity at 150°C and can cure quickly. Asbestos-filled organic silicon film pressed products can work at 250°C for a long time, and the instantaneous working temperature can be as high as 650°C. Now they are widely used in aviation, aerospace, and electronic and electrical industries.

In view of the above characteristics, silicone resin is mainly used as insulating paint (including varnish, enamel, colored paint, impregnating paint, etc.) Tubes, electrical insulation windings, etc. Using organic silicon insulating varnish to bond mica can make a large area of ​​mica sheet insulating material, which can be used as the main insulation of high-voltage motors. In addition, silicone resin can also be used as heat-resistant, weather-resistant anti-corrosion coatings, metal protective coatings, waterproof and moisture-proof coatings for construction projects, release agents, adhesives, and secondary processing into silicone plastics for use in electronics, electrical and defense industries Above, as semiconductor packaging materials and insulating materials for electronic and electrical parts.

There are roughly three ways of curing and crosslinking of silicone resin: one is to use the hydroxyl groups on the silicon atom to perform shrinkage polymerization and crosslinking to form a network structure, which is the main way to cure the silicone resin, and the other is to use the ethylene connected to the silicon atom. Base, using organic peroxide as the catalyst, similar to the way of silicone rubber vulcanization: the third is to use the vinyl and silicon-hydrogen bond connected to the silicon atom to carry out the addition reaction, for example, solvent-free silicone resin and blowing agent can be mixed.
